Undergraduate Studies TerrapinSTRONG Spring 2024 Events

What is TerrapinSTRONG?

TerrapinSTRONG is the University of Maryland’s new onboarding program for faculty, students, and staff. It affirms our mission, culture, and values as a diverse, united, inclusive, and empowered community.  All new Terps in Letters and Sciences (LTSC), Freshmen Connection (FC), and Academic Achievement Programs (AAP) are invited to attend Undergraduate Studies’ (UGST) TerrapinSTRONG Events.

TerrapinSTRONG ELMS Modules

The first element of UGST’s TerrapinSTRONG program is the completion of ELMS modules that builds upon the University of Maryland’s TerrapinSTRONG modules that are required for all UMD students. Please complete these modules at the link below if you have not already done so as a new student: UGST TerrapinSTRONG Canvas Site

Upcoming Events

Over the course of the upcoming semester, Undergraduate Studies is hosting a number of TerrapinSTRONG events via our STRONG Connections program (more info below). These events are created with you in mind. The goal of these events is to help you find community here on campus, get connected with the university, and experience a sense of inclusion and belonging as a new Terp.

Participation in these events is limited to new students in LTSC, FC, and AAP (starting during the 2023-2024 academic year). Registration is recommended, but not required- feel free to drop in! More information can be found on the TerpLink

StrongConnections

FIND YOUR PLACE AT UMD! At STRONG Connections, you’ll make new friends, try out clubs and activities, and see everything UMD has to offer.

Open to all new LTSC, FC, and AAP students, this bi-weekly club is designed to give students a taste of all that UMD has to offer. It is perfect for people who are not sure which club they would like to join, people who aren’t ready to commit to one or two specific student orgs, or want to join a club, but have fall scheduling conflicts (looking at you, Freshmen Connection students).

Each meeting we will participate in fun, interactive activities co-hosted by different clubs across campus. We will host clubs that focus on everything from board games to art projects to community service projects. Come each week to try it all!

Spring 2024 Schedule

All events are Thursdays, 3-4pm unless otherwise noted. See full details and descriptions in TerpLink

February 1 - TerpZone Kick-Off (Location: TerpZone)

March 7 - Guided Painting with Studio A (Location: Studio A, Adele H. Stamp Student Union)

Each week will look different depending on the club that we will be collaborating with. Potential activities include playing games to help train service dogs, learning to juggle, painting a bench in the community garden, board games, visiting the campus farm, and so much more!

Yes! Bring a friend, or come alone and leave with a friend! We just ask that if your friend is not a new LTSC, AAP, or FC student, they wait until those students have gotten pizza to take theirs.

While it is not required, we really appreciate if you can RSVP to each session you plan to attend to help us gauge interest and come ready with enough pizza and supplies!

Yes! In the fall, our program is bi-weekly, while in the spring it is once a month. All students new this year are invited to attend fall and spring events (if you’re new in the fall, you are invited to spring events).

The Office of Letters and Sciences is committed to providing access, equal opportunity and reasonable accommodation in its services, programs, and employment. To request accommodations, contact Amanda Dennis in advance of the event at adennis3@umd.edu.
